On the instructions of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Enforcement Branch (EB) and task force officials conducted a joint inspection at Maniktala Market on Tuesday at 10:30 AM. The inspection covered the vegetable, fish, and egg sections of the market. During the visit, officials monitored pricing practices, interacted with vendors, and noted that sellers were quoting the same prices for vegetables.
Officials from the EB and the task force have been visiting various markets daily to monitor the prices of essential items including vegetables, fruits, spices, and fish. These inspections are aimed at maintaining stable pricing and preventing irregularities across market stalls. The initiative includes surprise visits to key markets in Kolkata and checks for any unjustified price hikes.
Task force member Rabindra Nath Kole stated that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had issued an order on May 8 to monitor the markets due to a “war-like situation.” The objective, he said, is to ensure that prices remain within the reach of common people. The daily inspections are part of this ongoing directive.
